“Men, in general, praise God in such a manner that He scarcely obtains the tenth part of His due.” ~John Calvin, 1557
Suffering glorifies God.
Like a spark starts a fire, God uses suffering to ignite man’s praise. He uses suffering to get my soul to glorify Him.
God’s glory is foreign to a fool: it’s alien to an atheist. Suffering is senseless to the godless because God doesn’t make sense to them. The godly bend their knee to God in times of suffering. But God bends the knee of the godless and makes them suffer forever. God gets glory from both.
When I praise God in my suffering, God is glorified. God uses suffering to soften my heart. Suffering exposes my need of a Savior. It reminds me of the God Who rescues. It directs my focus to my Deliverer. It helps me see His glory. The greater my suffering is, the more glory God can receive.
Suffering separates me from selfish thinking. It “resets my clock” to God’s “time.” It reframes my focus: it points my compass toward heaven’s gate, not my front door.
Satan uses suffering to steal. But God uses the suffering Satan causes to save. For the greater the evil is, the greater God’s salvation becomes.
God sees the suffering saint. God sees, strengthens, and saves him. God supplies power to the saint who suffers in Him as he praises and glorifies Him.
Attack Point: God gets glory from suffering. Freely give it to Him!
