The fear of God. It’s but the beginning of wisdom. We can barely comprehend the grace God extended us with His only Son. Face to face with our Creator….we will all be on our face.🙏

Good Evening, and Amen.

I struggled in writing this one today, largely because of what you observed: "We can barely comprehend ..." It took me a few more hours than it normally does to pen this piece.

I have been thinking about why the topic of 'fear' is so difficult for so many. I don't find it difficult to define, really, but I find it terribly difficult to explain. I think I find it difficult for one simple, and very sad, reason: In my nearly 50 years in the Church, I haven't heard a whole lot of sermons about the attributes and character of God from our pulpits.

It seems I hear a whole lot more 'Application' sermons than 'Adoration' sermons. I am convinced that we are a poorer and weaker people for it.

When we are not familiar with who God is, and when we are not well-acquainted with His character, it is even MORE difficult to explain how amazing He is ... and how awful we are ... before His throne without the grace you mentioned. And, it is more difficult to fear Him.

I believe we play 'fast and loose' with God's grace - and fail to fear Him as we ought - because we largely neglect to talk enough about God's attributes and don't spend nearly enough time thinking about His character.

Maybe that is why I am drawn to the Puritan Preachers: whether it was from the pulpit or on the written page, they were always proclaiming the character of God!

Thank You for your comment. It helped me piece together some loose thoughts! I appreciate you!

I appreciate you!!! I lean from each thought-provoking article! I think what you’ve described is evidence of how insidiously the evil one has infiltrated our churches, even the actual church if all the world’s believers in Christ…. The feel good preachers have been used to substitute fear of God with ‘he’s a buddy’ that I have always found appalling! We have a dedicated pastor to God’s word thankfully. God uses you to cement God’s word in our mind and make it applicable today! That’s a gift!! Blessings!

Good Afternoon! Thank You for your kind words. As I have mentioned, the Old, Old Story doesn't need to be re-interpreted. It just needs to be faithfully retold! 😉

So, I am nothing more than a humble herald. I just 'report the news!' And that's an honor I can't put into words.
